A Snowy Engagement Session on Mount Hood, OR

Kicking off this new year on January 1st I headed up to Mount Hood with new Kate Holt Photography team member Taryn to play in the snow and celebrate the engagement of Brandon and Jenni who will be married this coming April.

I was a little nervous heading up to Government Camp, as the forecasted snow had turned to rain and the trees and forest floor were still bare of any snow almost all the way to the top! Once we rounded the last corner however we were greeted by snow and multitudes of people all out and about enjoying it.

Brandon and Jenni are big snow lovers and often go snowmobiling in epic places like Mount Adams and Mount Saint Helens. I was pretty impressed that Brandon could climb a sled all the way to the rim at Helens as that is a pretty steep face but he said with the proper snow you can get all the way to the crater’s edge for a magnificent view!

Brandon and Jenni got engaged in Hawaii and as we walked out to our first snowy location we laughed as they took turns sharing the story with us which included an unsuccessful search for turtles, Brandon tightly clutching the bag he brought along and Jenni’s huge smile as she said yes and the ocean waves crashed nearby.

I also got to learn a bit about their current home life where Brandon is in charge of making delicious breakfasts and Jenni masters any baking they might desire. The two of them are such an easy going couple and even through Brandon isn’t a huge fan of being in front of the camera he was relaxed during the shoot and his laugh lit up Jenni’s eyes several times as we walked around in the snow!

Taryn and I had gotten up to the mountain a little earlier in the day to scope out the best locations for the weather, so after playing around a bit near Government Camp we drove across the pass to Frog Lake. Apparently Hood is THE place to be on New Years Day however, and after circling the parking lot for about 10 minutes without finding parking we decided to venture off to find somewhere less crowded.

Believe it or not we ended up in a snowmobile campground so Brandon felt right at home as sleds zoomed past us while we walked around the forest paths looking for good light.

Brandon and Jenni brought along their pup Molly who is a gorgeous Newfoundland with the sweetest demeanor you can imagine. For only being a few years old, she was a really calm pup and even heeled next to Jenni as we walked in the snow. Taryn and I had a blast playing around with Molly while Brandon used treat to incentivize her to show us her photogenic side.

The day was wrapped up just as the sun sunk and the rain started pattering down. Taryn pulled off her soaked socks and we turned up the heat in my Jeep and we headed back to the city. Our hearts are full of the love Brandon and Jenni have for each other and content with starting off 2021 with a lovely winter adventure session! Check out some of the images from this shoot below and drop Brandon and Jenni some love, congraduations and well wishes in the comments below!
