I’ve been writing about wedding decor a lot recently, and while all the blogs have been good and useful, there is one section of decor that most people underutilize! Now I know what you are thinking but it’s true, there are still some areas of wedding decor that don’t get enough time in the sun! Our topic today is on the wedding accent wall. Some of you may not even know what a wedding accent wall is, while others of you may know, but simply haven’t devoted the time or energy into planning one. Well, that would be a huge mistake, as they are cute, fun and a great way to spice up your reception area! But first, what is a wedding accent wall?

To put it simply, a wedding accent wall is well, exactly what it sounds like! It’s a wall that accents your wedding! In all seriousness though, this wall can take many forms (as you’ll see below) and often can be used for more than just a decorative section of your reception space. While most people would think to incorporate the accent wall into their head table space, it can be so much more than that! Whether you use it as a space for food, guest book signing or as a way to spice up your head table, one thing is for sure; you won’t want to underutilize it in your wedding!

Wooden Pallet Accent Wall

Now, before you say that wooden pallets are gross and don’t look good, consider what you’re losing by holding such an opinion outright. For one, eco-friendly and sustainable decor is very posh these days, and even if you’re not into that whole “reclaiming” deal, there is still something to be said for using old, natural materials. Now obviously, this wouldn’t work for everyone! If you’re having a pure white wedding then you may have no option other than to paint the pallets or scrap the idea, but for those having a more home-style wedding, or something that’s a little less all-white, this is an absolutely brilliant idea! Now, I may be biased because I love this type of decor, but in all seriousness, it is really beautiful and popular these days, so maybe give it some consideration!

Rose Accent Wall

This may not seem like a crazy unique option, but the potential is limitless! Using flowers is a great way to make use of free space, while promoting a natural yet colorful vibe for your reception! Plus, just think of all the things you could do with the flowers. Create a picture of you and your significant other or write each other's names! The possibilities are endless, as long as you have the imagination for it! On a cost-effective note, as you probably guessed, a wall of roses is not particularly cheap, so bear that in mind! Still, an awesome idea!

Lighting Strand Accent Wall

As the name implies, this accent wall is created through the use of light strands. If you are to follow the direction of the image below, then some fluorescent lights would provide a nice, warm glow to the area where the wall is placed. If you’re planning on having a reception that goes later into the evening, then perhaps having them behind your head table would provide you with a nice warm glow for you to enjoy while eating, chatting and listening to the ever-fabled toasts! Of course, you could pursue an LED option, and use the wall as an accent to the dance floor! If you go with rainbow LEDs that are remote controlled, give the remote to your DJ and have him incorporate the wall into your evening of fun!

Donut Accent Wall

You’d have to be crazy not to love this accent wall! I mean seriously, I don’t know anyone who would say no to a donut, especially not when they’re unsupervised like these are. But the concept goes far beyond just donuts, you could do this exact type of wall with many things like bubbly, or cupcakes, or a wall of sweets in jars! This is definitely one of those ideas that stands out as a food area accent wall, but it could be placed anywhere! In fact, it may be nice to separate it from the main food area, if you’re hoping to have your guests wait to eat dessert until after the cake cutting. The wall doesn’t just have to be filled with desserts either. Add some touching photos or other mementos, or some funny text in little frames! Make the wall your own and own the donuts on it!

Chalkboard Accent Wall

This idea isn’t exactly new, although it’s not commonly seen at weddings. Most chalkboards walls one might be familiar with would come from a school or if you were a lucky child, your bedroom! While it’s not a commonly seen accent wall at weddings, it’s a super cute idea! You could have all your guests sign it and leave you a note, or you could tell the story of your relationship and place it behind your head table. Use it as a menu for your feast, or a roadmap for your dessert/drink area! The possibilities are literally endless! From drawings to useful notes, or signatures from your friends and family, this accent wall is a great idea!

Balloon Arch Accent Wall

The second to last accent wall on my list is the classic balloon arch! While most couples think to use balloons in a classic arch shape, the image provided below shows you the possibilities provided to you are far beyond those of the traditional balloon arch! Use colors inside or out of your wedding palette and let your design prowess flow through you into the shape of the archway! Add some lights and greenery to the spiral and the wall it connects to in order to create something truly unique and stunning! Again, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination, so get creative

The Polaroid/Photo Gallery Accent Wall

As the last option on this list and the one that hit’s closest to home for me, I had to include an accent wall that’s photography related! After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, isn’t it? Get yourself a polaroid and start shooting either before, during or both before and during your wedding! While it’s true that you and yours’s probably won’t have much time to take and hang photos on the wall, you could designate a friend or family member to do the shooting and hanging for you! Of course, if you’re going to use other photos, the wall will probably have to be assembled before your big day, but no matter which way you go about it, the memories will be flowing, and the wall will be stunning! This wall would probably go best somewhere where it’s not being blocked, thus behind the head table or another table is probably not the best option you have, but it’s your wedding, so place it wherever you want it!

The accent wall is commonly not used to its fullest potential, so if you plan yours out and make something special, it will truly be a thing to remember. I once had a couple fold 1,000 paper cranes in a gradient from their wedding colors. It had the Kanji for love in the center made out of white cranes and it was hung behind the newlyweds at their head table as a sign of their love for each other! So, when I say that the accent wall possibilities are endless, you know I’m telling you the truth!
