Cool Ways to Make Your Wedding Rings Unique

When it comes time to pick your wedding rings, most couples are content with something simple and shiny. There’s nothing wrong with that, however it’s a missed opportunity to turn your wedding rings into something truly unique.

There are a million designs online and most jewelry makers will create something truly special if you ask them to. But why stop there. If you are in the market to have a one-of-a-kind ring made for your spouse, then consider putting your own creative input into the mix. You don’t have to be an artist to create a simple image of what you want. Most jewlers that offer custom rings will create a wax version of the ring to present to you before they start on the real deal, so give them some nuggets of wisdom on how you want it to look. Borrow images from the internet, draw up a sketch or for the more artistically inclined, model the ring in 3d for your jeweler to see.

For those of you who don’t know where to start or don’t have any ideas of how to make the ring unique, I’ve provided a short list of some cool ideas for turning your spouse's ring into something incredible! Pictures will be provided as well!

Choose Colors That Aren’t Common

There's usually not a lot of options afforded to women’s rings as the industry has made white and yellow gold the standard. While these colors of gold are beautiful, they aren’t a stretch from the norm. If you want to break out of the industry box so to speak, I’d encourage you to look into rose gold or obsidian black for the metal of the ring. For men, there are many other options available when it comes to colors for the wedding band. However, most men’s rings don’t utilize the options available to their fullest potential. For example, instead a white or yellow gold, why not combine the two? A two-tone ring with both gold’s looks truly unique!

Use Materials That Aren’t Usually Used

What about using some unique materials for your ring? You don’t just have to use gold; there are a bunch of materials to choose from! Although they are commonly used for men’s rings, you could totally make a killer women’s ring out of them as well! Platinum, titanium and damascus not special enough for you? Maybe you’d like to go with a fully ceramic ring or even one made out of meteorite!

Engrave Something Custom into the Band

Something that has become increasingly popular over the recent years is engraving a message or symbol into the wedding ring! This could be something simple like, “I love you” or, for the nerds, “One Ring to rule them all, One ring to find them; One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.”, a little text from your favorite series. Maybe text isn’t really your thing; symbols that hold special meaning between the couple are also becoming increasingly popular! One of my brides gave her husband a ring with a Japanese Kanji on the inside of the band. It meant a lot to him since he was a huge Japanese culture nerd.

Have a Design Forged into the Ring

Another cool idea is to have something forged into the metal of the ring. Unlike an engraving where the added design is flush with the metal, this would be something that adds texture and physical depth to the ring. One of my grooms presented his wife with a special ring that he had designed himself. It contained a special symbol and a bird, both of which were forged into the ring as added details and provided a unique texture and level of depth to the ring's look.

Add Colorful Stones Next to the Diamonds

A great way to set your spouse's wedding ring apart from its peers is to include other gemstones! Most wedding rings include a major diamond in the center, and some have smaller diamonds around the center stone or around the circumference of the ring. Add some spice to the ring by including some colorful gemstones around the centerpiece or if the ring is encircled with diamonds you could break up the line with some colorful additions.
