A Sunset Engagement Session at Cape Kiwanda

in Pacific City, Oregon Coast

Zach and Emily are HUGE fans of the Oregon Coast, so when they signed up for an adventure engagement session I knew we would be headed to the beach! Luckily, they had never been to Cape Kiwanda before, so I could surprise them with its stunning beauty for their engagement session!

As we met them in the parking area, their adorable pup jumped out to greet us with an enthusiastic wag of the tail and a huge puppy smile! Dressed in a gorgeous but very summery top, I was concerned Emily would get too cold on the walk over to the dunes, but she proved to be a total champ the entire session and never once complained about the chilly wind whipping over the Pacific.

As we walked, Zach fondly told the story of chasing Emily since highscool, enamored with both her beauty and personality. His persistence definitely paid off and after nine years of dating, they are now engaged and planning a gorgeous destination wedding in Mexico!

Emily and Zach were engaged at Lost Lake while visiting the Oregon coast and I must say, the custom diamond ring that Zach gave Emily had my eyes sparkling! You could just tell from the first few moments of the shoot just how much Zach loves Emily and it warmed my heart!

Emily has been following Kate Holt Photography for a while now, and she and Zach had watched some of my posing tip videos, so they were truly naturals in front of the camera and Zach wasn’t too shy for anything, including epic dips as the evening sun rays sparkled off the ocean water which played at their feet.

Being a rather adventurous couple, we hiked to the top of the Cape Kiwanda dunes to have the beautiful view of those epic Pacific City cliffs in the background of their portraits. Their little pup was a ball of energy the whole time, the beach being one of his all-time favorite places to run around and play.

Emily recently got an internship in Ohio, so just after this trip she and Zach were headed down there to move her into her new home where she will stay for about a year while Zach continues to work in the PNW. He definitely is planning several trips down to visit Emily however, and this long-distance engagement reminded me of when Dom and I were engaged but he had to stay in England while we applied for his fiancee visa. Long distance can be a challenge, but with how Zach and Emily look at each other you can tell they’ll sail right through this and be all the stronger for it.

Playing around on the dunes with these two was an absolute blast and I’m just in love with all their photos! Take a look at a few of my favorites below and don’t forget to drop them some love and congrats in the comments!
