An Adventurous Engagement Road-trip through Oregon State
So the first thing you should know about Mikayla and Jeramy is that they unknowingly allowed me to complete a mini-photography dream I’ve had for the past 5 years!
I met Mikayla and Jeramy when they entered our bi-annual engagement session giveaway and although they weren’t winners, through watching our IG Lives and following us on Instagram, they fell in love with our personality and work and after a long video chat I knew they were an ideal Kate Holt Photography Couple and our Wedding Journey began!
Mikayla and Jeramy are an amazing couple. They’re the type of people who are just so comfortable to be around because they are always their true selves in any situation so you always know where you stand with them. They recently purchased a new house and have been working hard on the upkeep of their property and have been raising their two adorable pups Dallas and Daisy.
Jeramy is an incredibly hard worker and Mikayla’s creativity makes me really excited to see all the decor and vibe of their gorgeous wedding at the stunning Bride Over Clear Creek wedding venue in Estacada next summer.
For their engagement session, Mikayla and Jeramy wanted to do something really unique. Mikayla’s parents had in the past taken the longer, more scenic route from the Portland area down to Redmond/Bend and had snapped a few photos of some really cool spots along the way. Jeramy had a few videos on his phone of the scenic rolling hills when he too drove that direction returning up north and was really excited about the idea of doing a road-trip e-session and pulling off the road when we found some cool spots for photos.
I opened this blog by saying these two helped me complete a mini-photo-dream I've had for years, and yup you guessed it! This is it! Too often as a photographer whenever I’m on a road trip, I find myself looking out the window at the gorgeous scenery flying by and wishing I had an adventurous couple in tow to hop out for some epic photos.
Well, low and behold, this is the EXACT experience Mikayla and Jeramy were after! Yesssss!
We met up just outside of the Gorge to mark our route down south and hopped in our vehicles to start the adventure!
We pulled off the side of the highway for a little viewpoint of the Columbia River Gorge I knew about and enjoyed a rare moment of no-wind and beautiful light overlooking the river.
Jeramy and Mikayla are naturals in front of the lens and not five minutes had passed before I had images that ranged from laughter-inducing joy to sultry romance and I KNEW this was going to be an awesome shoot.
The next stop was when I spied a little tree on the side of the road with the sun kissing the tops of its branches. Mikayla and Jeramy were both game to put up with me weaving and bobbing while trying to put the sunburst in just the right spot, and then it was time for an outfit change as we continued down the highway.
The next few stops were a little more exciting than I think we really were up for, as I took us down a promising but VERY dusty road only to come out at a short-clipped hay field with a less-than thrilling view. Boo.
We came into a tiny little town with a stunning view of a river gorge, but as I led us down a side-street looking for a viewpoint, Jeramy pointed out the “No Trespassing” signs and kept us safe from potentially upset landowners shooting first and asking questions later. ;)
We ddi finally find the perfect little mini-field next to the highway to pull over to for some glowy portraits just as the sun was setting over the blue hills of central oregon. Jeramy sported a stylish cowboy hat and Mikayla looked absolutely country chic in some cowboy boots and a flattering textured dress.
Dallas and Daisy got to take a romp around while showing off their adorable bandanas declaring their excitement at “Mom and Dad’s” engagement!
We had one final stop in front of an American Flag that was proudly hung on the side of a hay barn and as we finished up their engagement session, Jeramy and Mikayla began to look forward to a whole weekend of Bachelor and Bachelorette partying in Sunriver with their friends.
