Modern Wedding Dress Styles

When it comes to modern dress styles, there are more of them than you’d think. In today’s day and age, it’s becoming more fashionable to be less traditional, especially when it comes to weddings! Couples have really started coming into their own, with the way the wedding day is created and curated to be more like them and less like the pure white wedding of the 1920’s.

While some couples still choose to go traditional with their wedding, it’s become more popular to incorporate a couple of old timey traditions and throw the rest out! One of the biggest areas that we’re seeing a change from the traditional to the modern is in the wedding dress! While traditional wedding dresses are certainly beautiful, they can leave something to be desired for the bride who wants a totally modern or chic aesthetic. That’s why in this blog, we’ll be covering some of the more modern dress styles that have really started coming into their own over the last decade or so. I’m excited, so let’s dive right in!

Mermaid
While it’s true that the Mermaid style of gown isn’t new, it has really started to gain popularity within the last decade. Not to mention, there are so many ways to design the look of the mermaid gown. The form fitting upper half leaves nothing to be desired, while the bottom half is free to be transformed into whatever the bride may desire! From a train covered in gems, to cascading layers of silky fabric, there are plenty of options to play with when choosing the mermaid style!

Mini Dress
The mini dress or short dress as it’s also known, is a brilliant style for any bride who thinks that less is more! With today’s push towards minimalism in all things, it’s only fitting that the wedding industry be affected as well! The glory of the mini dress is that, while you get less dress you certainly don’t get less style! From strapless to one shoulder, lace to silk, you name it, and you can find it in a short form factor. Seriously, there are some crazy cool designs with these mini dresses, just look for yourself!

Two Piece Gown
The two-piece gown is exactly what you think it is. Like most two-piece styles, the wedding gown follows suit with a lower and an upper half. The beauty of this style is that you don’t have to sacrifice anything in the design category! In fact, most wedding dress designs you might enjoy in a traditional gown can be found in a two-piece gown! From long trains to mini dress lengths and from lace to satin, there’s practically nothing that you can’t find in a two-piece variety!

One Shoulder
Like the mermaid style, the one shoulder is not a new concept, and yet it’s really started to spread its wings in the last 10 years or so! Becoming very popular among all brides, the one shoulder holds all the pizazz of a regular dress but adds an element of risqué with the one shoulder showing. Like all the other gowns on this list, there is no lack of specialty designs for this type of gown, so go wild!

Jumpsuit
Wedding jumpsuits are honestly not a trend that I would have considered to take off if you asked me when I first got into this business, but they certainly do offer a modern aesthetic and they even look pretty damn gorgeous! While you can find this style designed in a multitude of ways, the most common design I came across was very simple and clean, mostly made from satins or silks.

Capes

It’s true that capes are more of an accessory than a full-on style, and yet they have grown in popularity immensely, thus I feel that they should be included on this modern wedding dress blog! Capes can be found in so many designs, from lace to chiffon, satin to silk, small or large, short or lengthy. There’s really no limit to the design a cape can have, and that’s a good thing for all you brides who are looking to spice up your gown! Don’t believe me? Just look below!

And with that, we’ve covered some of the more popular modern wedding dress ideas. It’s true that there are way more out there, but I didn’t want this blog to drag on for too long! I hope that you found this helpful and entertaining! There are so many awesome new developments in the wedding world, and I love exploring them with you!
