Free Engagement Session Winners, Oregon City, OR
This last spring Kate Holt Photography held a competition for a free engagement session give-away. The winners were chosen based on a written entry by the couple about their relationship and what a free shoot like this would mean to them. Carlie and Jeremy absolutely stole the show with their entry about finding love together after a winding road of detours that life had thrown at them.
Finally meeting this wonderful couple after e-mails back and forth and several months of delays while we waited for the world to open up, I knew Dom and I had made the right choice in choosing them as one of our winners. Jeremy and Carlie are travelers and have spent quite a bit of time in Alaska and I practically pummeled them with questions about their adventures and time there throughout the whole session. Exploring Alaska and seeing the northern lights in all their beauty has long been on Dom and my “bucket list” of must-do adventures, so needless to say I was pretty excited to find out how much time Jeremy especially had spent there. He also owns his own boat and charters out fishing excursions, so if you are looking to catch Salmon or even Sturgeon, let me know and I’ll get you in touch with him for a private excursion!
Although a bit skeptical about how this “photo-thing” was going to be, Jeremy was nonetheless eager to make his fiancee Carlie pleased and absolutely nailed the basic poses first time through! Carlie is a photographer herself, so it was especially enjoyable to go through some of the more technical side of things as we chose locations for their portraits.
Carlie grew up in Oregon City, so showed me the gorgeous promenade that starts by the city’s municipal elevator and continues over to a look-out from which you can see the entire city and riverscape below. She was the perfect combination of helpful in showing me the city’s photogenic locations, but gracious enough to let me take the reins and follow all my silly “cues” for creating those candid portraits I love so much.
Jeremy and Carlie are planning an intimate wedding ceremony in Silver Falls State Park next June. I wish them the most glorious engagement leading up to it and treasured the time I was able to spend with them on this shoot!
