Jason + Lacey

A Romantic Couple’s Session near Battleground, WA

Jason and Lacey are two of my absolute favorite people. Not only are they just the sweetest couple, but they also have been through the ringer with planning their wedding, and have managed all the changes and rollercoasters of 2020/2021 with absolute grace.

Last summer they had a beautiful intimate micro wedding in a secluded natural area on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge, and this upcoming summer they are excited to have a Vow Renewal ceremony with all their family and friends in attendance at the venue they had originally planned to have their wedding, Jocquot Vineyards.

To celebrate this big get-together, Lacey asked if I would be interested in doing a photo session with her and Jason, their pony Elvis and Lacey’s two horses, Freckles and Peppy. Ummmm…. YES! was my immediate answer of course!

Now, I’ve never had the chance to be a “horse girl” but I have had the luck of knowing a few people people who own them and therefore allow me to tag along for a few rides here and there, and I definitely love them! Lacey is a barrel-rider and has worked with horses since she was a little girl. At their macro-wedding last year while we were walking around doing sunset portraits she even cued up a short video of her at one of the Rodeos she was in and dang, that girl can ride!

I was so excited (and a little nervous, let’s be honest!) for this epic shoot and was very thankful that Lacey and her mom were able to pick out the perfect secluded location for it!

Dom and I rolled up in our jeep and Lacey unloaded the horses with ease and as Freckles looked about rather nervously, Pepper and Elvis immediately set to munching on the tasty new grass shoots along side their trailer.

I’d done a bit of research online on just how one would go about posing couples and horses, and I must say the whole session went much easier than I had anticipated. Lacey was such a pro at moving Freckles and Pepper around, and they were so comfortable with her that it honestly made for the most fun I’ve probably ever had at a photoshoot.

As we walked around the shoot location we came across these GORGEOUS large trees that the sun was just cascading through in the most romantic evening light. Unfortunately the grass was so tall however, it practically hid everyone but Freckles from view! Luckily, my husband is amazing and allowed me to jump up on his shoulders to direct and photograph to my heart’s content! (I knew all those back squats at our Crossfit gym would come in handy one day!)

Jason and Lacey were amazing and were up for anything that popped into my mind and I’m so pleased with the beautiful portraits we captured! Check it out below and drop this gorgeous couple some love in the comments below!
