Jason + Lacey
Jason and Lacey’s vow renewal celebration was a long time coming, and I’ve been looking forward to photographing this moment for them for literally years!
I first met Jason and Lacey three years ago when they were searching for a photographer for a wedding they were planning at Jacquot Farm and Vineyard for the summer of 2020. Unfortunately, like many 2020 wedding couples, their plans for a beautiful vineyard wedding with all their friends and family had to be postponed, and although they were still able to marry in 2020 at an intimate hidden gem of a spot in the gorge, they continued to look forward to a proper celebration with all those they loved.
Jason and Lacey’s Vow Renewal was just about the most perfectly relaxed wedding celebration I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing, as all the normal pre-wedding nerves and jitters were absent, and in their place only remained the love and excitement of finally being able to get together with all their loved ones.
I arrived at Jason and Lacey’s beautiful home in Battleground with my assistant Gabby and was met with Lacey already looking fabulous with a natural-style wedding look, hair half pinned up with a sparkling crystal hairpiece.
Looking around Jason and Lacey’s home it was hard not to notice all of the elk sheds which Jason finds and then uses as decor. It reminded me of the particularly large pair of antler sheds that adorned the arch of their intimate elopement last summer and which later I would find acting as the perfect rustic center pieces alongside succulents, lanterns and baby’s breath vases on their vineyard reception tables.
As Gabby and I utilized Lacey’s office to photograph the day’s details, Lacey’s makeup and hair artist wrapped up the wedding-day looks of the bridesmaids and mothers.
Lacey had purchased matching robes for all the girls, so we had fun doing some poses in them before Lacey slipped into her beautiful dress. If you’ve ever wondered why I encourage my brides to choose to get ready at a house or air b + b rather than using a venue’s getting ready space, I could think of no better example than Lacey’s getting ready images. For a natural light photographer, her little spare office with it’s big windows, white walls and minimalistic decor was recipe for the most stunning light and airy bridal portraits! With hair, makeup, dress and jewelry all perfectly in place, it was time to head over to the vineyard where I met with Jason, his dad, brother, and brother in law in the groom’s little cabin to snap a few photos of them getting wedding-ready.
Lacey had made sure the guys were well-looked after and had a box of the most amazing cookies waiting for them, the perfect pre-portrait treat to get them on a sugar-high and fully ready to jump for joy while kicking off the vow renewal celebrations!
After a round of photos, guests began arriving and Gabby and I walked down to the ceremony space, which included a perfect entrance walk way flanked by Pinot Noir vines, still green in the height of summer.
As this wasn’t your traditional wedding, Jason and Lacey were able to make their entrance arm in arm and their officiant had put together a beautiful ceremony reflecting on their last year together and highlighting their continued commitment as a married couple.
After the “first kiss part two” Jason and Lacey laughed their way back down the aisle to join their guests for hugs and lots of catching up, as many of their family they hadn’t seen for months or even a full year!
Their reception was just as laid-back as the morning, as guests enjoyed delicious ice-cold fruits and lemonade as appetizers and top-notch Hawaiian food for dinner.
I kept my eye on the August sun and pulled Jason and Lacey off into the field for 15 minutes of epic sunset portraits and as I clicked away, I thanked my lucky stars that these two beautiful people chose me to be a part of this journey with them.
Not only are Jason and Lacey just plain stunning, they are the sweetest and most humble people you will ever meet, which made getting to spend this day with them all the more incredible.
After returning to the reception, the guests busted up in fits of laughter as Jason and Lacey played the shoe game and toasts were made. Jason and Lacey swayed to a slow country song, then cut their beautiful cake before sparklers were passed around and they made a final romantic dip amid the golden and pink light of the setting sun.
Jason and Lacey, thank you for trusting me to be your photographer on this epic journey that has been your wedding experience. It’s been a wild ride and through it all you both have executed all the twists and turns with incredible grace.
